Some offices closed for New Year’s holiday

The Unified Government and the Board of Public Utilities will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2, for the New Year’s Day holiday.

Offices will reopen on Jan. 3, with regular business hours, according to UG officials.

BPU will still have emergency service available on the holiday. The phone number for electric emergencies is 913-573-9522. The phone number for water emergencies is 913-573-9622 from 8 a.m. to midnight on weekdays, and 913-573-9522 from midnight to 8 a.m. , and during weekends and holidays.

Trash and recycling for residential addresses in Kansas City, Kan., will not be affected by the New Year’s holiday, according to the UG. The trash pickup schedule will remain the same.

For bus service in Greater Kansas City, RideKC transit will use Sunday and holiday schedules for Jan. 1 and Jan. 2, according to an announcement. The KC Streetcar in Kansas City, Mo., will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Unified Government buses will not offer service Jan. 1 and 2, according to the announcement. Administrative offices of the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority’s Regional Call Center will be closed.

Regular weekday bus service will resume on Jan. 3. For more information, customers may call the Regional Call Center at 816-221-0660 weekdays from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Monday, Jan. 2, is also a federal and state holiday.

The Kansas City, Kan., Public Library will be closed Friday, Dec. 30, through Sunday, Jan. 1, for the New Year holiday.

The Bonner Springs City Library is closed Sunday, Jan. 1, and Monday, Jan. 2, and will resume regular hours on Jan. 3.

Classes in the Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 4. Administrative offices in the Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools will be open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Jan. 2 and 3.
