Thanksgiving Breakfast Dance planned Thursday at armory in KCK

The annual Thanksgiving Breakfast Dance will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 24, at the Kansas National Guard Armory, 18th and Ridge, Kansas City, Kan.

Blues artist Theodis Ealey will sing his top hits, “Stand Up In It” and “Francine” at this event.

Also featured will be Trampled Under Foot, a Kansas City blues band.

Millage Gilbert and Lady Vivian also are scheduled to perform at the Thanksgiving Breakfast Dance.

The Thanksgiving Breakfast Dance was started by blues promoter Willie Cyrus in 1959. Through the years the dance has featured such artists as Little Milton, Johnnie Taylor, Bobby Blue Bland, Tyrone Davis, Sir Charles, Denise LaSalle, Floyd Taylor, Z.Z. Hill and Willie Clayton.

As many as 1,000 guests have attended the Thanksgiving Day Breakfast Dance in the past.

More than four hours of entertainment and dancing, along with food, are planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Doors open at 9 a.m.

Advance tickets are $45 and reserved tickets are $55. A reserved table for 8 is $400. Tickets at the door are $50. Advance tickets are available in Kansas City, Kan., at Mad Jacks and City Fish and More.
