A Kansas City, Kan., woman, Heather Jones, was sentenced to life in prison today, a hard-25 sentence, in connection with the death of her 7-year-old stepson.

Judge Michael Grosko also sentenced Heather Jones to five years and two months in prison, to run consecutively with the life sentence, for two counts of child abuse, said William J. Burns Jr., Wyandotte County District Court administrator.

Jones, 30, pleaded guilty in October to first-degree murder in the case. The boy’s body was found by police investigators in November 2015 in a barn on the family’s property in the 5200 block of North 99th in Kansas City, Kan.

Co-defendant Michael Jones’ trial is set for early next year, Burns said.
