Serious injuries were reported after a crash this morning near 75th Place and State Avenue in Kansas City, Kan.

Police responded this morning to a call about 10 a.m. of two females suspected of trying to pass a bad check at the Bank of America location at 78th and State Avenue, Kansas City, Kan., police spokesman Officer Tom Tomasic said.

When police arrived at the bank, the two females had just fled in a brown Nissan vehicle east on State Avenue, he said. It was not a pursuit case, he added.

The vehicle ran a red light at 75th Place and State and hit a Dodge Avenger that was eastbound on State, Officer Tomasic said.

“By the time we got out on State Avenue, the wreck had occurred,” Officer Tomasic said.

Both females in the Nissan are in serious condition, he added. The driver of the Avenger is in stable condition.

Detectives are currently on the scene investigating, he added.

Officer Tomasic said the suspects did not get any money at the bank, but that staff at the bank had been trying to stall them until police arrived.

Traffic was diverted from State Avenue while the crash was being investigated.
