Author describes memories of Pearl Harbor
Author Dorinda Nicholson will speak at a program at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Main Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave. She will discuss her memories of being a small child living on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
Nail care offered

Fairfax group to meet Nov. 10
The Fairfax Industrial Association will meet for luncheon from 11:15 a.m. t 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Kellogg’s, 801 Sunshine Road, Kansas City, Kan. The guest speaker will be Col. Tom Roe, U.S. Army retired. He will speak about his career with the military and will comment on the military today. Sponsors of the meeting at Kellogg’s and Country Club Bank. The cost of the luncheon is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. After the luncheon there will be tours of the factory, with those going on the tour wearing closed-toe shoes. Free Resource Fair offered at Bonner library
A free Resource Fair is offered at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Bonner Springs Library, 201 N. Nettleton, Bonner Springs. It is sponsored by the Western Wyandotte Citizens Advisory Council. Information will be provided on topics such as food assistance, mental health services assistance, utility assistance, emergency services assistance, nutrition assistance, shelters, safe homes and domestic violence assistance, and veterans assistance. At least 14 organizations will have a table.

Mayor’s Downtown Holiday Lighting Festival to be Nov. 18
The 12t annual Mayor’s Downtown Holiday Lighting Festival will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, in the City Hall plaza, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan. The event starts at 4 p.m. at the first floor of City Hall. Santa and Mrs. Claus will attend, musical groups will perform, holiday characters will be present, and a tree decorating contest will be held in conjunction with the mayor’s tree lighting, planning for 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Legends holiday lighting ceremony to be Nov. 19
The Legends Outlets will hold its 12th annual Legendary Tree Lighting Ceremony from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19. The lighting ceremony will be at the courtyard fountain area, where a 45-foot tree will be in place. Live holiday music, prizes, a special appearance by Santa Claus, and a large display of animated lights synchronized to music are featured. There will be a countdown to the tree lighting. The lights will be on display through early January 2017. This event is free and open to the public.
El Centro plans 40th anniversary Nov. 19
El Centro plans its 40th anniversary celebration from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Embassy Suites Conference Center in Olathe, Kan. The event includes dinner, cocktails and dancing.
Dialogue continues on reducing community violence
A dialogue on reducing community violence will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Sumner Academy, 1610 N. 8th St., Kansas City, Kan. It is sponsored by the Mayor’s Clergy Roundtable. Those who attend will be in groups of 10 to 15 people with a facilitator assigned to lead the dialogue. Police officers will join in the small group discussions. Another dialogue is scheduled at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Patricia Diane Kane Community Center, 3130 N. 122nd St., Kansas City, Kan.
Canteen dance and concert planned
A 1940s canteen dance and concert is planned to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kan.
