Silver City Day parade to be Oct. 1
The Silver City Day parade and celebration is scheduled Saturday, Oct. 1. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at South 42nd and Strong Avenue, and continues to 24th Street. It will be followed by a celebration from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Emerson Park, 29th and Strong. There will be entertainment, food and activities. Candidate forum planned Oct. 1
A candidate forum will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Bethel Neighborhood Center, 14 S. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan. The Wyandotte County Candidate Forum on Criminal Justice will include candidates for the Kansas Legislature who will share their views on the criminal justice system. Sponsors of the candidate forum are Kansans for Smart Justice, ACLU of Kansas, El Centro, Kansas Appleseed, Kansas Black Leadership Council, Johnson County NAACP, MainStream Coalition, and the Social Justice Council of Shawnee Mission Unitarian Universalist Church.
Edwardsville plans fall family picnic and 5k today
The city of Edwardsville will hold a Fall Family Picnic at Edwardsville City Park on Oct. 1. The event is for Edwardsville and celebrates the community, its history and its future. It will feature attractions such as face painting, balloon animals and other field games. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be sold at a small charge. In addition to this year’s picnic will be the Phyllis J. Freeman 5k, 3k walk and kids’ fun run. The 5k race will take place at 8 a.m. Oct. 1, beginning at Edwardsville City Park and concluding on the new trail crossing the bridge into the southeast portion of the park. The cost of the walk is $30. Food and drink will be provided at the end of the race. Proceeds from the 5k will benefit the Kelly Lynn Lutz Memorial Foundation, which provides scholarships to children of parents with cancer.
Piper craft show planned
A Piper High School Craft Show is planned from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the high school, 4400 N. 107th St., Kansas City, Kan. It is the robotics craft show.
