Central Avenue parade will be Sept. 10

The 40th annual Central Avenue parade is scheduled at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. The parade will start at 18th and Central and end at Bethany Park, 12th and Central, Kansas City, Kan. Piper Community Festival to be Saturday

The Piper Community Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10, at Piper High School, 4400 N. 107th St., Kansas City, Kan. The event starts with a 5K run at 7 a.m. Saturday, along with a pancake breakfast. A car show will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a carnival is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A silent auction is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Also planned is an alumni softball game at 3 p.m., followed by a community dinner at 5:30 p.m. A street dance with a disc jockey is planned at 7:30 p.m. For more details about the community festival, visit https://www.facebook.com/Piperusd203.

Learn how marbles are made

A marble-making demonstration is scheduled from about 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Moon Marble Co. store, 600 E. Front St., Bonner Springs. Mexican Independence Day program planned

A Mexican Independence Day program is planned from noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the West Wyandotte Library auditorium, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kan. The event is for all ages.

Children’s craft program offered

A children’s craft program is planned from 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Main Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Children ages 4 to 12 will make a magnet school bus photo frame. All materials are provided. Registration is required to 913-279-2216.

Cabela’s schedules fly-fishing class

Cabela’s, 10300 Cabela Drive, Kansas City, Kan., has scheduled a free fly-fishing class from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. Interested persons may meet at the Cabela’s Fly Shop and the class will go to the outdoor pond. The class is for beginners and experienced anglers.

Renaissance Festival continues

Ice cream social planned at church

St. Patrick Catholic Church, 94th and State Avenue, is planning an ice cream social at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. There will be food, music and dance, along with carnival attractions.
