Victim of fatal crash identified

The victim of a fatal crash on Monday night at 89th and Parallel Parkway has been identified by Kansas City, Kan., police.

The victim was Sotera Sebastian, 74, of Kansas City, Kan., a police spokesman said.

The crash was around 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, on Parallel Parkway near 89th.

When officers arrived, they saw two sport utility vehicles that were involved in the collision. Police were told that a man had fled from the striking vehicle, heading eastward. He was located a block away and taken to a hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.

The initial investigation stated that a tan SUV was stopped, westbound on Parallel, waiting to turn into Providence Medical Center, police stated. The second vehicle, a black SUV, was westbound and rear-ended the stopped car.

Three persons were in one of the vehicles, including the woman who died, according to the police statement. All were taken to a hospital. Sebastian later died at the hospital. The other two persons in the SUV sustained minor injuries, police said.

The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit-Critical Collision Response Team is investigating the crash.
