Independence police chase on Thursday ended near 77th and State in KCK

Independence, Mo., police ended a chase involving a robbery and assault suspect near 77th and State Avenue in Kansas City, Kan., on Thursday.

According an Independence, Mo., police spokesman, about 12:50 p.m. July 28 police officers were dispatched to an Independence restaurant on Noland Road in response to a disturbance and assault.

A suspect vehicle fled from police officers when they arrived in the parking lot of the Noland Road restaurant, according to the spokesman.

The responding officers learned that one of the restaurant employees had allegedly been punched in the head by one of the suspects in the vehicle and also failed to pay for both suspects’ meals, the spokesman said.

The vehicle continued to flee from police officers through Independence westbound into Kansas City, Mo., along I-70.

The vehicle pursuit continued into Kansas and ended in the 7700 block of State Avenue in Kansas City, Kan., after stop stick devices were successfully deployed, slowing the vehicle to a stop, according to the spokesman.

One suspect was taken into custody by the Kansas Highway Patrol. The other suspect was released pending further investigation, according to Independence police.

Independence police said no one was injured during the pursuit or as a result of it. Other information about the suspect is not being released until charges are filed, according to the Independence police.
