Child-adult relationship enhancement group planned
A Child-Adult Relationship Enrichment program in two parts will be held 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, July 11 and 18, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2200 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The program is for parents seeking to strengthen child-parent relationships and increase positive child behaviors. ACT Raising Safe Kids program scheduled

Benefit concert planned July 11
Kansas City Cares: Evening of Entertainment to support Orlando’s victims and families will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, July 11, at Trinity Community Church, 5010 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kan. Area musicians, singers, actors and dancers will donate their talents for this fundraiser. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. The suggested donation is $10. Wyandotte County Fair to be July 12-16

Candidate forum planned July 12
A candidate forum, sponsored by Business West, neighborhood associations and Kansas City Kansas Community College, is planned at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at the Upper Jewell Building, KCKCC, 7250 State Ave. The forum is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Candidates for contested races for U.S. Senate, U.S. House, state representative, judge and district attorney have been invited. The primary election is Aug. 2. After a brief introduction by each candidate, there will be questions and answers from a panel of journalists and neighborhood leaders. It is not a debate format. After the forum, the candidate forum will be shown on the college’s community access channel. It is Channel 17 on Time Warner cable and Channel 146 on Google TV.
Leavenworth Road Association to meet July 12
The Leavenworth Road Association will meet at 6 p.m. July 12 at Eisenhower Recreation Center, 2901 N. 72nd, Kansas City, Kan. After a potluck dinner and social hour at 6 p.m., there will be a meeting at 7 p.m. Fried chicken will be provided, and those attending may bring a side dish. KCK Women’s Chamber going to lunch challenge at Harvesters
The Kansas City, Kan., Women’s Chamber of Commerce will go to Harvesters for the Lunch Challenge on Wednesday, July 13. Those attending will participate in a team-building program to help work toward a common goal and raise awareness about hunger. The event will be about two hours long. Harvesters is at 3801 Topping, Kansas City, Mo. The cost of the luncheon will be $25 per person.

Free workshop offered on ‘Take Control of Your Chronic Condition’
A free workshop for people with chronic diseases will start on Wednesday, July 13, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. “Take Control of Your Chronic Condition” is a free 2.5-hour workshop held each week for six weeks, and will cover chronic disease self-management and diabetes self-management. The workshop will be from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Facilitators of the workshop will be Nozella Brown and Lori Wuellner, family and consumer sciences agents from K-State Research and Extension, Wyandotte County. A program on depression will be offered from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The program is presented by Stacy Davis. It is in partnership with Mental Health America.
Shepherd’s Center to hold Adventures in Learning program July 15
The Shepherd’s Center of Kansas City, Kan., will hold an Adventures in Learning program on July 15 at Grace Lutheran Church, 3333 Wood Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The program begins with health screenings and fellowship at 9 a.m. From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., a travelogue will be presented by Ed Shutt on Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks. Also from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Sheriff Don Ash will speak. From 11 a.m. to noon, Ed Shutt will present “History of Baseball, part 2.” Also from 11 a.m. to noon, the Rev. Ken Nettling will offer words of inspiration. Lunch is pot luck at noon. Those attending may bring a dish to share. The Shepherd’s Center will provide meat, paper goods, coffee and water. Night Out Against Crime to be Aug. 2
National Night Out Against Crime will be held from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the National Guard Armory, 18th and Ridge, Kansas City, Kan. There will be a “Remembering Our Fallen” special tribute honoring Detective Brad Lancaster given by Police Chief Terry Zeigler. The first 100 adults attending who belong to a registered neighborhood group will receive a free T-shirt. There will be informational booths and activities at the event.
