A fire at 1:41 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at the 12-story Rosedale Towers, 2314 W. 39th, caused $200,000 damage, according to the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department.
No one was injured in the fire, and 11 residents were displaced, a Fire Department spokesman said.
The apartment building, which has 144 units, was at near maximum capacity at the time of the fire, according to fire officials.
Fire crews responded within 4 minutes of the call and saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the outside of the high-rise building, according to the spokesman.
The fire was on the second floor, and crews stopped it from spreading into the hallway, the spokesman said. The fire was brought under control in 30 minutes, according to the Fire Department.
One apartment unit was a total loss.
The Red Cross was helping displaced residents, the spokesman said.
The estimated pre-fire value of the building was $6.85 million, and the estimated total fire loss was $200,000, the Fire Department spokesman said. The loss was equally divided, with $100,000 for the property and $100,000 for the contents.
