Kansas City, Kan., police believe they are making progress on solving a cold case from 1989.
In a statement made Sunday morning, Kansas City, Kan., Police Detective Scott Howard said the investigation is almost complete on the Sarah Jo DeLeon murder case.
DeLeon was a teenager on Dec. 29, 1989, when she was found near I-435 and Wolcott Drive with a substantial injury to her head, and she had been stabbed multiple times, leading to her death.
Her Mustang was found at the intersection of I-70 and 78th Street in Kansas City, Kan.
The case was thoroughly investigated in 1989 and has continued to be investigated since that time, police said.
In July 2014, the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department, with the availability of new forensics technology, continued its active investigation into the case, Howard said.
There is currently a suspect in the case, according to police.
“We still need your help,” Howard said.
He asked anyone who knows of a black limousine on Feb. 13, 1987, at the American Motel to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS or the Kansas City, Kan., police. Information will be kept confidential.
