KCKCC golfers 7th at halfway mark of national tournament

Kansas City Kansas Community College is seventh at the halfway mark of the 2016 NJCAA Division II National Golf Tournament being played at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Ind.

With a 607 total on rounds of 306 and 301, the Blue Devils are in striking distance of Mississippi Gulf Coast (596), Illinois Central (599) and Owens Community College (600) for as high as a fourth place finish.

Two southern powers are locked in a head-to-head battle for the 2016 championship. Tyler Junior College out of Tyler, Tex., holds a one-shot lead over South Mountain, Ariz. Tyler is 3-under-par at 573; South Mountain 2-under at 574 with Kirkwood (Iowa) a distant third at 585.

The Blue Devils are being led by a trio of Jeremy Dunham, Zach Spencer and Dalton Ayres. Dunham (77-74-151) and Spencer (76-75-151) are in seven-way tie for 31st place while Ayres (75-77-152) is a stroke back in a tie for 43rd at 152. Colton Allen (78-81-159) is tied for 82nd and Matt Thayne (84-77-160) shares 88th.
