Flash flood warning issued

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for northeastern Wyandotte County.

The warning is in effect until 4:15 p.m. today.

The warning is also in effect for northeastern Johnson County, southeastern Platte County, northwestern Jackson County and western Clay County.

At 1:14 p.m., Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warning area, the weather service said.

Three inches of rain have already fallen and ongoing thunderstorm activity will lead to additional rainfall this afternoon. Flash flooding is expected across the Greater Kansas City area.

Residents are advised to turn around when they see water in the roadway, and not try to cross it.

Those in the warning area are advised to move to higher ground.

Eastern Wyandotte County and other parts of the metro area also are under an urban and small stream flood advisory, the weather service said, until 3:45 p.m. today.
