Boys attending Kansas City Kansas Community College’s 2016 summer basketball camp will be getting instruction from some of the very best.

KCKCC head coach Kelley Newton, a former standout at Wyandotte High School and the University of Oklahoma; assistant Alton Mason, a former star at Arizona State; and members of the Blue Devil basketball team that won the NJCAA Region VI Division II championship this past season, will provide the instruction.

The camp will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the KCKCC Field House Monday through Thursday, June 13-16.

The camp is designed to provide instruction in the fundamentals in the game of basketball including such essential areas as passing, dribbling, shooting, defense and footwork. Campers will be separated according to their skill level where they will be instructed on developing proper habits. There will also be a series of methods of instruction through group lectures, individual and small group work, breakdown drills to create repetitions of the skills themselves and competitive play.

The cost is $70. All campers will receive a camp certificate and camp T-shirt and compete in a series of competitions. Advanced registration is highly recommended although campers will be allowed to signup prior to the start of teach camp.

Boys and girls may register in the Athletic Department in the Field House located at the north end of the campus at 7250 State Avenue; by going on-line and clicking on KCKCC Blue Devil Basketball Camp; or filling out the attached form and mailing it to KCKCC Men’s Basketball, 7250 State Avenue, KCK, 66112. In addition to name, age, address and home phone number, other information that will be requested is year in school and school of attendance, emergency contact and shirt size. Medical releases also must be signed.
