Polski Day parade, celebration planned
Polski Day, a benefit for All Saints parish, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 7. The event includes a parade beginning at 11 a.m. at 14th and Central Avenue in Kansas City, Kan. A Polka Mass will be held at 4 p.m. May 7 at All Saints Catholic Church, 8th and Vermont, Kansas City, Kan. At the festival, there will be polka dancing and Polish food. Go Bowling 400 race to be Saturday night at Kansas Speedway
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race will be May 7 at the Kansas Speedway near I-70 and I-435 in Kansas City, Kan. Martin Truex Jr. captured the pole for the Go Bowling 400, his eighth career pole and first since April 2012 at Texas. The race begins around 6:47 p.m. A pre-race concert by Eddie Money will be about 5 p.m. Tickets for Saturday night’s Go Bowling 400 are available at the Kansas Speedway ticket office from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday and then at Kansas Speedway’s Gate B starting at noon.

Grand opening planned for Full Employment Council location
Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II and Kansas City, Mo., Mayor Sylvester “Sly” James Jr. are expected to attend the grand opening of the new south location of the Full Employment Council Inc., and new corporate offices of the National Association of Construction Contractors Cooperative at 2 p.m. Monday, May 9, at 6025 Prospect Ave., Kansas City, Mo. The Full Employment Council is expected to announce new initiatives for unemployed youth and adults in the Kansas City area. UG Commission to meet May 12

A special meeting has been called for the Unified Government Commission at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 12, in the fifth floor conference room, City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan. There will be a presentation of the 2016-2021 capital maintenance improvement project budget. Program offered on cultural communication
“Cultural Conversations and Connections” will be the topic of a program sponsored by Mental Health America of the Heartland from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, at the West Wyandotte Branch Library auditorium, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kan. The class is designed to deepen the level of authentic cross-cultural engagement to effectively communicate between dominant and marginalized groups. Scholarship golf tournament planned June 8

The Kansas City, Kan., Foundation for Excellence will hold the 26th annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on June 8 at Sunflower Hills Golf Course, 122nd and Riverview, Bonner Springs, Kan. There will be a shotgun start for the morning flight at 7:30 a.m., after registration and breakfast at 6:30 a.m. Lunch and awards will be at 1 p.m. at the George Meyn Center. There is also an afternoon flight beginning at 1 p.m. after the lunch. Dinner and awards will be at 6 p.m. at the George Meyn Center. Proceeds from the tournament will go toward scholarships for at least 15 Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools seniors. Bishop Ward to hold 35th annual Golf Classic

Bishop Ward’s 35th annual Alumni and Friends Golf Classic will be held June 10 at Painted Hills Golf Course. Co-chairs are Tom Mayfield, class of ’81, and Kevin Connor, class of ’83.
