Thirteen Lady Blue Devil sophomores will be honored Saturday as the 2016 Kansas City Kansas Community College home softball season winds down.

Sophomore Day recognition will come between games as KCKCC plays host to Cottey College in games scheduled for noon and 2 p.m. at Steineger Field adjacent to Turner Middle School. The Blue Devils are also slated to be the host for a University of Missouri club team Sunday, again at noon and 2 p.m.

The 13 sophs include this season’s four .400 hitters and eight of the top 11 including most of the starters.

They include Tiffany Killam, who leads the team in hitting (.467), home runs (15) and RBI (45); outfielder Morgan Oroke (.424), first baseman Geena Harris (.422) and pitcher Brittany Gustin (.419). Others who have seen starting action include pitcher Elizabeth Seimears (.375), catcher Savannah Dungan (.333), infielders Mekayla Foskett (.333) and Kennedy Rasmussen (.324) and outfielder Mekayla Guerrero (.317) along with backups Serena Escobar, Reagan Clough, Hannah Moore and Lauren Johnson.

The Blue Devils (23-9) closed out Jayhawk Conference play Thursday, losing 10-0 at No. 4 ranked Highland in five innings. Down just 3-0 after four innings, KCKCC gave up seven runs in the fifth on a 3-run home run and a grand slam. Held without a hit, only two Blue Devils reached base, one on an error, the other on a walk.
