A home fire at 2214 Vista Drive is under investigation, according to a Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department spokesman.
The fire at 4:46 p.m. May 5 resulted in a $90,000 loss to the property and contents. The residents had evacuated the building by the time firefighters arrived
Firefighters saw smoke coming from the roof, and the fire was found in the attic. It had spread through the structure, the spokesman said. Crews had to back out of the building when the first floor roof started to collapse.
Crews were able to re-enter the building to attack the fire on the second floor, the spokesman said.
The fire investigator responded to the scene. The cause is under investigation, although the fire originally was reported as electrical in nature. There were no injuries, according to the spokesman.
