The new chef at Children’s Mercy Park, home of Sporting KC soccer team in Kansas City, Kan., is a 25-year culinary veteran by the name of Kevin Stenberg who was raised in North Carolina.
He started in the Winston-Salem area at the young age of 15, where he was a baker at the famed Winkler Bakery in Old Salem. He made artisan breads and pastries using a 200 beehive oven while continuing fine training at prestigious dining destinations.
He is known to be a proven leader and was the executive chef of some North Carolina top restaurants. From there he was hired by Legends Hospitality to lead the culinary team at the famed BB&T ballpark in Winston-Salem.
He has worked at the Dallas Cowboy stadium as executive chef. In February 2016 he decided to make the leap to Kansas as the executive chef of Sporting KC at Children’s Mercy Park.
Fans will be able to see the new menu at the home opening match on March 12.
The menu this year will blow your wildest culinary fantasy ever such as aged cheddar on Texas toast. Like always, there is the world renowned macaroni and cheese and this year’s will score every time.
This year fans will now be able to enjoy pairings of top fine wines with the finest world renowned cheese and abundant dessert platter.
For hot dog connoisseurs they have a hot dog bar that will blow your wildest imagination. The desserts include funnel cakes with a little flair. The funnel cakes are dusted with brown sugar and served with warm cinnamon. Wow the best ever.
The famed Farm to Table bread company custom-makes all the bread items used at the Children’s Mercy Park.
Stenberg said he wanted to use locally grown fresh produce with advanced culinary arts to make the food as well as the game a wonderful experience.
“I have a simple philosophy — we can always do it better,” Stenberg said.
After looking at the many items on the menu you really can’t go wrong. This year’s Sporting KC is not only remarkable for soccer but also for a culinary experience for young and old.
