Bishop Ward High School has a long tradition of baseball success. As baseball season gears up, Bishop Ward is joining with KC United Youth Sports Initiative to sponsor Royals’ hitting coach and former all-star Willie Mays Aikens at the school for a community wide assembly.
On Feb. 24, students and local youth from the community will have a chance to hear from Willie Mays Aikens as he tells his life story including a promising career in major league baseball to the struggles he faced along the way.
“We are very excited to have Mr. Aikens in the building. His faith filled story of a changed life will inspire our students,” said Bishop Ward president, Father Thomas Schrader. “With our own baseball season about to begin this will be a great assembly that will resonate with our students.”
“A huge thanks to KC United for making this possible, this will be a great experience for our students that they will never forget,” Father Schrader said.
