Colin Garner, a student at Delaware Ridge Elementary School in the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville School District, has won the Kansas Doodle for Google competition.
Colin and his family won a trip to California for the finals at Google headquarters.
In the contest, students throughout the nation were invited to “doodle” their inventions to make the world a better place.
If his doodle is chosen as the national winner, the prize is a college scholarship. His artwork, called “Peanut Detector,” is online at the contest website, https://www.google.com/doodle4google/vote.html#d=d2-2.
Colin stated that his football coach this year is allergic to peanuts so he wanted to invent a machine to help. In his words, “Since some people are allergic to peanuts, my invention can make it so that people who are allergic can eat peanuts safely.”
The national winner’s doodle will appear on the Google.com homepage and the winner will receive a $30,000 scholarship and a $50,000 Google for Education technology grant for his school.
The public is invited to vote for Colin’s artwork online at https://www.google.com/doodle4google/vote.html#d=d2-2. The voting started April 29 and continues through May 9.
