Winter bird watching planned
Coffee and hot chocolate will be available to those who attend a bird-watching program from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Environmental Library at Wyandotte County Lake Park, 4051 West Drive (entrance of park at 91st and Leavenworth Road), Kansas City, Kan. Those attending may see chickadees, woodpeckers, juncos, cedar waxwings and other birds. Viewing can be done from inside the library. For information, call 913-299-2384.

Archery session planned
An archery session for all ages is planned from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 6 at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Environmental Library at Wyandotte County Lake Park, 4051 West Drive (entrance of park at 91st and Leavenworth Road), Kansas City, Kan. Learn sewing and quilting at the library
Sewing and quilting for beginners or for those who want to learn more will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb.6, at the West Wyandotte Library, Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, children’s craft room, 1737 N. 82nd, Kansas City, Kan. The class is for adults, and for those ages 10 and older. There is a limit of 15. Advance registration is requested to the library, 913-596-5800. Those who register get priority.

Chinese New Year tea ceremony planned
A Chinese New Year tea ceremony will take place from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Main Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, story time – craft room, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The host of the ceremony is Lucky Baby Tea Co. Samples will be served of traditional Chinese tea to welcome the Year of the Monkey, and those attending may learn some Chinese phrases. Cabin Fever Carnival today
Living Water United Methodist Church, 3001 N. 115th St., Kansas City, Kan., will have a Cabin Fever Carnival from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the church. Memorial benefit concert planned

Lou and Cy’s Memorial Concert will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Moose Lodge 1999, at 6621 Turner Drive, Kansas City, Kan. The benefit includes music and a silent auction to raise money to send adults with muscular dystrophy to summer camp. Bands include Dotte Dynasty, The Stonebreakers and The Wood Band and Friends.

Black History and Scholarship Banquet to be Feb. 6
The 24th annual Black History and Scholarship Banquet will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Reardon Convention Center, 500 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The keynote speaker will be State Sen. Oletha Faust-Goudeau, D-29th Dist. Sen. Faust-Goudeau was the first black woman to serve in the Kansas Senate. The event begins with a social hour at 5 p.m. Also, there will be an after-dinner dance at 8 p.m. The host of the event will be Cynthia Newsome, KSHB-TV news anchor. There will be live entertainment by KC Jazz and a poetry reading by Larry Guidry. Pre-registration is encouraged. Tickets are $45 per person. Church plans Ragin’ Sweet and Spicy Fest
Holy Name Catholic Church cafeteria, 1007 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, Kan., will be the site of the Ragin’ Sweet and Spicy Fest from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 6. The chili, soup and dessert cookoff is sponsored by the Holy Name Divas. Entries will be accepted in the school cafeteria from 4 to 5 p.m. “Stranded in the City” will provide music.

Wyandotte County Museum
