Turner Middle School student brings inactive grenade to school

Turner Middle School parents have received a note from the school about an incident involving an inactive training grenade.

According to the note sent home to parents, a middle-school student brought an inactive training grenade and inert bullet to school and showed them to students.

The items were purchased from a military surplus store, according to the note, and did not pose a safety issue. Their presence, however, caused concern for some students, the note stated.

Kansas City, Kan., police were contacted, according to the note to parents. A police spokesman, however, today stated there is no record of a student bringing a grenade to school.

The note from the school stated that “disciplinary consequences” will be applied in accordance with district policy.

The note from school asked parents to have a talk with their child about bringing only necessary items to school and the importance of reporting to an adult anything that is potentially harmful or inappropriate.
