Many birds of prey on exhibit at Eagle Days

Last weekend an event happened at the Wyandotte County Lake in Kansas City, Kan. The event is called Eagle Days.

This annual event is where people learn about birds of prey. Birds that were on display included eagles, crows, falcons, and owls, to name a few. This two-day event attracted well over 150 visitors to the lake. A lot of birds of prey live within our community.

The event on Saturday started with a presentation at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Environmental Library at the lake park that was given by Bill Whinery, who talked about birds of prey in the area. Whinery is a volunteer with Operation WildLife, a local wildlife organization.

After Whinery’s presentation, participants were encouraged to visit the birds of prey also on exhibit at the James P. Davis community center, located across the lake.

The participants were encouraged to ask questions about the birds and had an opportunity to view the birds as well.

This event attracts young and old alike and every year is a success. This is an event sponsored by the Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, the Board of Public Utilities, the Unified Government and Operation WildLife, and every year it draws people from all over the Kansas City metropolitan area.
