Christmas Eve forecast: Some rain possible this morning

A 30 percent chance of rain is possible today, Dec. 24, according to the National Weather Service.

There is a chance of showers, mainly before 11 a.m. Today’s high will be near 49, with a southeast wind of 8 to 14 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon and gusting as high as 21 mph.

Tonight, there may be patchy fog after 3 a.m., the weather service said. The low will be around 31. A west northwest wind of about 6 mph will becoming northeast after midnight.

North of the Kansas City area, near Omaha, Neb., some snow will be possible Christmas Eve.

In the Kansas City area, rain will move in this weekend, before a strong winter system, according to the weather service.

It is still uncertain whether the Kansas City area will see any strong winter storms on the weekend, the weather service said.

Periods of moderate rain, snow, or freezing rain will be possible through early next week, according to the weather service.

There is no snow in the Christmas Day forecast for the Kansas City area, the weather service said. Skies will be partly sunny with a high near 51 on Friday, and an east wind of 5 to 9 mph.

On Friday night, there will be a 40 percent chance of showers after midnight, according to the weather service. The low will be around 45, with an east wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light east northeast after midnight.

On Saturday, there is a 50 percent chance of rain with a high near 54, according to the weather service. A light east northeast wind will become north 10 to 15 mph in the morning, gusting as high as 22 mph.

On Saturday night, there is a 70 percent chance of rain, with a low around 31, the weather service said.

Sunday’s forecast is a 30 percent chance of rain before noon, then a chance of rain and snow, according to the weather service. It will be cloudy with a high near 34, and breezy.

Sunday night, there is a 40 percent chance of precipitation, and a low of 27, the weather service said.

Monday, there will be a 70 percent chance of rain with a high near 35, according to the weather service. Monday night, there will be a 50 percent chance of rain before midnight, then a chance of rain and snow.

Tuesday it will be mostly cloudy with a high near 34, the weather service said. Tuesday night’s low will be around 24.

Wednesday’s forecast is partly sunny with a high near 35, according to the weather service.
