A pair of sharp-shooting performances by non-starters highlighted Kansas City Kansas Community College’s 91-37 women’s win over Ottawa University’s JV Tuesday night.

Freshman guard Destiny Vincent was 5-of-7 from three-point range en route to a career high 21 points while sophomore Janay Jacobs was a perfect 4-of-4 including a pair of treys in a 10-point effort, also a career high.

The win was the ninth in a row for the unbeaten Lady Blue Devils, who will compete in the Iowa Western Classic in Council Bluffs this weekend, facing Briar Cliff Friday at 5 p.m., and Otero Community College Saturday at 1 p.m. Next home game comes Friday, Nov. 11, against North Arkansas.

“We had only one practice after having 10 days off over the Thanksgiving break so I was glad to get everyone plenty of minutes and that everyone scored and contributed,” said KCKCC coach Joe McKinstry. “I was also very pleased that we had 23 assists on our 37 field goals.”

The Blue Devils also got a double double from sophomore Erin Anderson, who had 19 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and four steals. Valencia Scott added nine points, Brooklyn Wagler eight and Sierra Roberts, Brie Traua and Cheyenne North six points each. The Blue Devils’ leading scorer, North had as many rebounds (6) and blocked shots (6) as points.

In addition to her game high 21 points, Vincent led in assists with five and steals with four.

“It was good to get a big game from Destiny Vincent,” McKinstry said. “I’ve known all along that she is capable of shooting the ball well so hopefully this will help carry that on in the future and she’ll be a shotmaker who we can count on.”

A 5-4 nursing major, Vincent played high school basketball at Klein Forest in Houston, Texas.
