Isolated showers and few thunderstorms are possible through the day Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
As a front moves through late this afternoon and evening, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop, the weather service said. A few of these may be strong with gusty winds the most likely hazard.
The front should move into far northwestern Missouri around 5 p.m. and move to the I-35 corridor by around 10 p.m., according to the weather service.
Storms are expected to weaken as they move east and as the evening progresses, the weather service said.
Kansas City, Kan., has a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today, according to the weather service. Rain is possible during the day and also after 5 p.m. The high today will be near 71. A south wind will be 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.
Tonight, there is a 60 percent chance of rain and storms mainly before 11 p.m., the weather service said. The low will be 42. A south southwest wind of 6 to 11 mph will become northwest in the evening.
The storms today will precede a cold front moving into the area.
On Friday, it will be sunny with a high near 58, the weather service said. A west wind will be around 6 mph, and will become light and variable in the afternoon.
Friday night, expect partly cloudy skies and a low of 38, the weather service said. A calm wind will become west around 5 mph after midnight.
Saturday’s forecast, according to the weather service, will be sunny with a high of 54. A north wind will be 5 to 8 mph.
On Saturday night, expect clear skies with a low of 34, the weather service said.
Sunday’s forecast is sunny with a high near 55, according to the weather service.
Sunday night, it will be mostly clear with a low of 38, the weather service said.
