The Kansas City, Kan., Board of Education recently recognized Cassie Woiderski, registered nurse, a school nurse at Morse Early Childhood Center, Bellrose Manor Head Start, Douglass Heights Head Start and Rainbow Mennonite Head Start; and Karen Birt, night custodian at John Fiske Elementary School as the Employees of the Month for September 2015.
The employees of the month were recommended by Evelyn Hudson, Board of Education member and chair of the Employee of the Month Committee.
“Karen Birt, our night custodian, is one of the hardest working staff members at John Fiske School. She not only does her job with consistent excellence, but also regularly seeks out ways to improve the school and maintains a clean environment for the students and staff. She goes above and beyond!! One small example that exemplifies Karen’s efforts is when she met with the principal and said she would be willing to disinfect and clean teacher desks but they were often cluttered and she didn’t want to move things. In response, we have set up two days a week that are ‘desk cleaning days.’ If teachers declutter their desks she will make them shine. She demonstrates excellence, respect, and hard work. These are traits that are highly valued at John Fiske Elementary. She is very deserving of the honor of Employee of the Month.” Sincerely, Britt Pumphrey, teacher leader
“Cassie Woiderski, spent the majority of her adult life putting others first: parenting two children, volunteering at her children’s schools, working at a child care center, volunteering at Juniper Gardens, participating in her church, serving as a mentor to others in need. Then, school nurse Cassie joined our district in September 2013 at Morse Early Childhood Center. Since then, she has worked tirelessly with our children, their families and our staff. She has developed partnerships with our staff to be sure that we are supporting our families the best way we can. She has been great with the kids!! Her office is a welcoming area, designed to put students at ease. They will let you know by the excitement of seeing their ‘Nurse Cassie,’ or ‘Dentist Cassie,’ or my personal favorite, ‘Princess Cassie!’ For all of the above reasons, and many more, I nominate Cassie Woiderski, (registered nurse), for Employee of the Month.” Sincerely, Debi Apple, principal
