Christ the King Catholic Church, 3024 N. 53rd St., is planning a Community Blood Center blood drive from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at the church basement.
Holy Family Church is planning the annual Slovenefest from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Holy Family Club, Msgr. Mejak Hall, gym and school grounds, 513 Ohio, Kansas City, Kan. The 7th annual Slovenian festival is dedicated to the memory of Mike Waliczek, a long-time Holy Family church member and volunteer. Our Lady of Unity parish will hold its fifth annual OLU Unity Fest from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 12 at Sacred Heart field, 2646 S. 34th St., Kansas City, Kan. All-day fun and family entertainment are planned. Live music will include spiritual-folk, oldies, bluegrass, Spanish and rock. Carnival games, inflatables, talent contest, variety musical groups, American and Mexican-style food and drinks will be available. There will be a silent auction with more than 120 items. Risen Lamb International Church of the Nazarene, located in the Turner area of Kansas City, Kan., has announced the opening of the Risen Lamb Prayer Room and Retreat Center. On location at their church at 5301 Metropolitan Avenue, the prayer room and retreat center is open to the public for daytime retreats. All individuals or small groups seeking a quiet, sacred space to gather, pray, meditate, journal or read resources about prayer are welcome. The prayer room provides a peaceful space for solitude or can be scheduled in advance for groups of up to eight people. Guests seeking spiritual guidance may schedule a time of spiritual direction with one of the pastoral staff, and groups may inquire about scheduling a member of the pastoral team to lead or speak at a retreat. St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1086 N. 94th St., plans an ice cream social at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, following the 4 p.m. Mass. The event includes food, games, a car show and a polka band.
Members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1300 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan., will have a booth at the Hispanic Heritage-Labor Day Festival from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at 18th Street and Minnesota Avenue. A parade is planned down Minnesota Avenue starting at 11 a.m. at Fourth Street. The parish will observe the 15th Sunday in Pentecost Sunday, Sept. 6. Services in English will be at 10 a.m. and in Spanish at 7 p.m.
A free Health Fair will be held at White Church Christian Church, 2200 N. 85th, on Saturday, Sept. 26. The Health Well Mobile will be there at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will give free bone density tests, as well as hearing, vision, blood pressure and other tests. White Church Christian Church is sponsoring this as a community event, to increase residents’ access to health care. There will be a free healthy lunch, and many advisers on topics from dental hygiene, Medicare plans, to anything of a spiritual nature. The public is invited.
Wyandotte United Methodist Church, 7901 Oakland Ave., will hold an all-church breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26. The church trustees are sponsoring the breakfast, and a freewill donation will be accepted. The church will hold a Community Blood Center blood drive from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at the church fellowship hall. The Zion United Church of Christ quilt project group will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the fellowship hall in the church basement, 2711 N. 72nd St. Those attending may bring a sack dinner or eat before attending. The SNS Quilters group regularly meets at 2 p.m. Saturdays.
