A suspect is dead after an exchange of gunfire with U.S. Marshals in an incident at 8:16 p.m. Aug. 19 in the 2200 block of Elizabeth Avenue in Kansas City, Kan.
The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department assisted the U.S. Marshals in delivering the fugitive apprehension warrant, a spokesman said.
When they arrived, U.S. Marshals made contact with individuals inside the residence and were able to positively identify one of the persons as the suspect they were there to apprehend, the spokesman said.
The suspect then exchanged gunfire with the U.S. Marshals, and barricaded himself inside the residence, according to the police spokesman.
After several unsuccessful attempts to make contact with the suspect, the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Special Operations Unit entered the residence and located the suspect, dead inside a closet, from an apparent gunshot wound, the spokesman said.
The case is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Criminal Investigations Unit.
