Man found guilty of murder in connection with 2011 shooting

Donald R. Haygood, Kansas City, Kan., was found guilty Wednesday of first-degree murder in connection with a September 2011 shooting death.

Haygood, 30, also was found guilty of criminal possession of a firearm, according to the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s office.

Demetria Mill died in the shooting Sept. 17, 2011, at a residence in the 3000 block of South 8th Street in Kansas City, Kan.

Sentencing is set for 2 p.m. Oct. 2 in Division 9 of the district court.

Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Tatum prosecuted the case for the state.
