Sporting Kansas City has made several moves following the injury on Saturday of midfielder Roger Espinoza.
Espinoza suffered a left sesamoid fracture on Saturday and is expected to miss at least 10 weeks while recovering from the injury, the club announced Thursday.
Later Thursday, the club announced it had signed Jordi Quintilla, a 21-year-old midfielder from Spain who has played internationally in Spain and France.
Quintilla trained alongside former Sporting KC midfielder Oriol Rosell at Barcelona’s La Masia academy. In 2012, he began his professional career as an 18-year-old with Barcelona B. He spent the 2014-2015 season with AC Ajaccio in the French Ligue 2.
Sporting KC acquired Amobi Okugo from Orlando City SC in a trade last month.
In another move, Sporting KC announced Friday it had acquired allocation money from Toronto in exchange for Herculez Gomez’s right of first refusal within MLS. Gomez played for Kansas City in 2008-2009.
Also on Friday, Sporting KC announced it has sent an international roster spot to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for general allocation money.
The International roster spot will remain with Colorado until Dec. 31, 2015, and then returns to Sporting Kansas City for the 2016 season, according to the announcement.
After this announcement, Sporting KC has seven remaining international roster spots in 2015. Five of the team’s spots are filled by Bernardo Anor, Marcel de Jong, Jimmy Medranda, Soni Mustivar and Krisztian Nemeth.
