I-635 crash happens after driver becomes distracted

A three-vehicle crash happened at 7:55 a.m. Aug. 4 on I-635 southbound, just south of the Shawnee Drive exit, in Wyandotte County, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.

Two vehicles were stopped in traffic when the driver of a Chevrolet utility vehicle in back of them became distracted, according to the trooper’s report.

The Chevrolet utility vehicle was too close to a Toyota car in front of it, according to the report, and struck the rear of the Toyota, forcing the car to rotate counter-clockwise and travel to the left, the trooper’s report stated.

The Chevrolet utility vehicle then kept its momentum and traveled forward, striking a Volvo passenger car, according to the trooper’s report.

The driver of the utility vehicle, a 36-year-old man from Overland Park, Kan., was injured, according to the trooper’s report.

The driver of the Toyota car, a 45-year-old man from Overland Park, Kan., was injured and taken to a hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

The driver of the Volvo car, a 57-year-old man from Kansas City, Kan., was not injured, the report stated.
