Flash flood watch in effect

A flash flood watch is in effect from 7 a.m. July 19 until 1 p.m. July 20 in Wyandotte County, according to the National Weather Service.

After this morning’s heavy rains, another round of widespread heavy rainfall is expected to develop over roughly the same areas, the weather service said.

Amounts of 1 to 3 inches of rain are likely but there will also be localized heavier amounts, the weather service said.

Because the ground is already saturated, flash flooding is likely from east Central Kansas through northern and central Missouri, the weather service said.

Residents are advised to avoid trying to travel through water standing in roadways, turn around and to seek another route.

Residents should monitor weather forecasts and be prepared to take action in case flash flooding develops.
