Burning ban in effect in KCK

Because of a red flag warning, the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department has placed a ban on all open burning until further notice, a spokesman said.

Residents who have a permit for burning today must refrain from open burning, according to the spokesman.

Residents also are asked to use caution when using outdoor barbecue equipment.

Wind gusts of 40 mph are possible today, according to the National Weather Service, and humidity has dropped to a point where outdoor fires may spread rapidly and easily.
