Strawberry Hill Museum open on weekends
The Strawberry Hill Museum, 720 N. 4th St., Kansas City, Kan., is open on the weekends. The museum is open from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. ‘Luau with Love’ to benefit kids in crisis
St. Patrick Parents Class of 2009 is once again collaborating with PACES to hold “A Luau with Love” – this year to help fund operating expenses for Robert’s Place, the new emergency shelter for kids in crisis in Wyandotte County. “Remembering Robert: A Luau with Love” is set for 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at St. Patrick Parish Center, 94th and State Avenue, Kansas City, Kan. For a $25 per person donation, guests will enjoy a buffet meal, entertainment, games, and a silent auction and other fundraising events. The Luau commemorates Robert Zevenbergen, former St. Patrick parishioner, who died at age 20 in a tragic car accident on March 20, 2014. Robert’s Place is named in his memory and serves kids removed from their homes due to suspected abuse or who are at-risk of out-of-home placement. Robert’s Place is a program of PACES, the Wyandotte County nonprofit agency that provides services to address emotional and behavioral needs of children and adolescents, and their families. Last year’s Luau with Love benefited the capital campaign to build the new Robert’s Place that will open this summer. This year’s proceeds will go toward ongoing operations of the emergency shelter. Free concert offered June 27 at Legends
The “Live at the Legends” concert series will continue at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at The Legends Outlets, I-70 and I-435, Kansas City, Kan. Performing June 27 will be The Zeros new wave 1980s sound. Future concert dates include July 11: Red Guitar, transcendent melodic rock music; and July 18: Perpetual Change, 1980s and 1990s rock (with some hits from the 2000s).
Mayor Holland to speak at Business West Membership Meeting
Mayor Mark Holland will be the featured speaker at the Business West Membership Meeting at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 29, at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd St. The mayor will tell of various development activities in the West Wyandotte County area. Free summer movies offered June 30 to July 2
Free family-friendly movies will be offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. at the Legends 14 Theatres in Kansas City, Kan. The free movies on June 30 to July 2 will be “Rio 2,” rated G, and “Puss in Boots,” rated PG. Doors open at 9 a.m., all ages may attend. Seating is limited to availability on a first-come-first-serve basis. The schedule is subject to change. Current feature films are not included in the free admission.

TedxWyandotte event to be Sept. 15
The TedxWyandotte event scheduled for Saturday at Kansas City Kansas Community College has been postponed and rescheduled. The event will now be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at KCKCC, 7250 State Ave. It will feature approximately six presenters speaking on the theme of “Breaking Through: Confronting the barriers that divide us and challenging ourselves to move beyond them.” Tickets already purchased will be valid for the new date in September. Bishop Ward plans 37th annual auction
Bishop Ward High School, 708 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan., is planning its annual auction Sept. 26. The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. and will have a “There’s No Place Like Ward” theme. It will include a silent auction as well as food from several local restaurants and live music. At 7:30 p.m., the live auction begins. The Nigro Brothers will be in charge of the live auction.
