Ban on e-cigarettes on tonight’s UG committee agenda

A ban on electronic cigarettes is on the agenda tonight for a Unified Government Standing Committee.

The Administration and Human Services Committee meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 22, on the fifth floor, Room 515, at City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan.

The amendment to the UG’s smoking ordinance would make sure that electronic cigarette usage is prohibited in enclosed places of employment and on public sidewalks next to health care facility property lines, according to agenda information. The UG already has a ban on smoking in enclosed public places.

Also on the agenda for the 5:30 p.m. meeting are a presentation on the Local Area Workforce Partnership, and a report on the state of the Municipal Court.

At 5 p.m. Monday, the Public Works and Safety Standing Committee is scheduled to meet.

The committee is scheduled to hear a presentation on proposed routes for marathon races and staffing.

Other topics at the 5 p.m. meeting include a resolution that would allow land to be acquired for a short span bridge replacement project on North 131st; and discussion about the process to evaluate and approve stormwater projects.

After topics are discussed at the UG committee level, they might move to the UG Commission level for a vote.
