Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt’s office has filed lawsuits against five roofing contractors for violating the Kansas Roofing Registration Act by failing to register with his office.
The roofers are located in Wichita, Derby, Holdrege and Smithfield, Neb., and Hutchinson.
Schmidt said the following companies have been served with lawsuits:
• Gregory E. Wright, Wichita, dba Extreme Home Solutions; Shawnee County District Court, Case No. 2015-CV-000492.
• Mike’s General Contracting LLC, Derby; Mitchell County District Court, Case No. 15-CV-13.
• Roof PRS LLC, Holdrege, Neb., and Chanse Beinke, Smithfield, Neb.; Shawnee County District Court, Case No. 2015-CV-000495.
• Super Siding LLC and Daniel Roberts, Hutchinson; Reno County District Court, Case No. 2015-CV-000181.
• Taylor Made Exteriors LLC, Wichita; Sedgwick County District Court, Case No. 2015-CV-001409-OT.

In each case, Schmidt alleges the defendants engaged in advertising, soliciting or performing roofing contractor services without registering with the attorney general’s office as required by the Kansas Roofing Registration Act. Schmidt is seeking restitution to consumers who did business with these unregistered companies as well as penalties for doing business without registering.
“Kansas lawmakers made clear their intent to protect consumers when they enacted the Kansas Roofing Registration Act in 2013,” Schmidt said. “Our office has spent the past two years helping contractors get registered. Despite repeated notice of the requirements, these roofers have failed to comply with the law.”
Schmidt said consumers should make sure roofing contractors are properly registered before signing any contract or having any work done. Consumers should request a copy of their roofer’s registration certificate and then should check the attorney general’s consumer protection website at www.InYourCornerKansas.org to confirm that the registration remains active.
