Leavenworth Road Association, Parks and Rec plan fishing derby June 13

The Leavenworth Road Association and the Unified Government Parks and Recreation Department are planning a free kids’ fishing derby June 13 at the Wyandotte County Lake kids fishing pond, 91st and Leavenworth Road. Registration is at 7 a.m. The event is from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Trophy presentation is at 11:30 a.m. There will be free goodies bags, free hot dogs and free bait. The event is for ages 3 to 15. Juneteenth celebration planned June 13

A Juneteenth celebration including a parade, car show, cancer walk and run, and barbecue-greens competition will be held June 13 at Big Eleven Lake, 11th and State Avenue, Kansas City, Kan. A parade is scheduled at 10 a.m. starting at 7th and Quindaro and traveling to Big Eleven Lake. At noon, a celebration begins at Big Eleven Lake. All musical performances will be gospel-based. KCK library to hold comic book convention

The Kansas City, Kan., Main Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., will hold the first Library-Con, a convention for local comic book fans, on June 13. Library-Con will feature four comic artists: Ande Parks, DC Comics; Jason Aaron, Marvel Comics; Dennis Hopeless, Marvel Comics; and Kyle Strahm, Image Comics. Fans may meet and talk with the artists and see examples of their work. They will also be giving lessons on creating comics. Library-Con will start at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 13. Alcott to be site for ‘Robin Hood Files’ children’s play

Alcott Arts Center, 180 S. 18th, Kansas City, Kan., will be the site for “The Robin Hood Files,” a children’s production by Phil Tuffin directed by Katie Lee. This will be performed at 7 p.m. June 13 and 20, and at 3 p.m. June 14 and 21. Tickets to the production are $8 for general admission, and $6 for children ages 12 and younger and senior citizens. The cast for “The Robin Hood Files” includes Dani Saunders, Eva Kading, Anthony Cusumano, Dean Foreman, Jenna Bickelhapt, Jesse Cruz, Dakota Garrison, Zoe Green-Lockwood, Isabel Abio, Alyssa Cusumano, Alexander Gerardy, Ivy Gerardy, Josephine Gerardy, Victoria Gerardy and Harley Carolus. Puppet presentation planned

The Stone Lion Puppets will present “I’d Rather Be a Hummingbird” from 2 to 3:30 p.m. June 13 at the West Wyandotte Library auditorium, 1737 N. 82nd, Kansas City, Kan. All ages are welcome. Children under 9 must be accompanied by an adult. The event is free and open to the public.

Free concert offered June 13 at Legends

The “Live at the Legends” concert series will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at The Legends Outlets, I-70 and I-435, Kansas City, Kan. Big Time Grain Company, a country and country rock band, will perform from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Legends, near the courtyard fountain area in front of the theaters. The concert is free and open to the public. Other concert dates include June 20: Dino O’Dell and The Doo-Dads, children’s music; June 27: The Zeros, new wave 1980s; July 11: Red Guitar, transcendent melodic rock music; and July 18: Perpetual Change, 1980s and 1990s rock (with some hits from the 2000s).
