Suspects were taken into custody after a chase in Kansas City, Kan., Shawnee and Bonner Springs this afternoon.
The armed robbery suspects went through the area at a high speed and then left their car in Bonner Springs, running on foot. Police canine units from Kansas City, Kan., and Shawnee were brought in, with the Shawnee canines finding the suspects after about an hour and a half, according to Bonner Springs Police Chief Mark Zaretski.
He said Kansas City, Kan., police were in pursuit of the suspects for a long time. The chase went to Holliday Drive, I-435 and into Bonner Springs, where it then went to K-7, he said.
The young adult suspects were taken into custody in Bonner Springs, in a heavily wooded area, Zaretski said.
Since the area where the vehicle was abandoned was close to Bonner Springs Elementary School, the school was placed on lockdown, and then evacuated, he said. There was an activity going on there today with three busloads of kids present.
Zaretski said all of the students were OK, as well as all of the suspects.
The Kansas Highway Patrol, Bonner Springs Police Department, Kansas City, Kan., Police Department and Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Department were involved in the case.
While suspects were being pursued on the southwest side of Wyandotte County in Bonner Springs, another unrelated case was happening in the northwest side of the county.
Wyandotte County Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Kelli Bailiff said an arrest was made in an unrelated aggravated burglary case.
A suspect vehicle was located by sheriff’s officers at 127th and Leavenworth Road, and the Sheriff’s Department set up wide perimeters, in the woods near 117th and Parallel Parkway, a search was made, and one person was taken into custody, the spokesman said.
