Lane closures will begin June 1 for the I-435 bridge repair project over the Missouri River.

According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, southbound I-435 over the Missouri River bridge, including .05 mile on either side of the bridge, will be reduced to two open lanes at 7 a.m. Monday, June 1, and then reduced to one open lane at 9 a.m. Monday, June 1. Crews will be installing traffic control, and placing a concrete barrier on the bridge for the bridge repair work, according to KDOT.

Southbound I-435 over the Missouri River bridge will reopen to two lanes at 5 p.m. June 1 and will remain this way throughout the project duration, KDOT stated.

Traffic will be detoured through the project work zone via concrete barrier, signage and cones. There will be a posted speed limit of 60 mph through the work zone throughout the duration of the project, KDOT stated.

Drivers should expect delays during peak commute times and may wish to use alternate routes if possible, the spokesman said.

Updated daily traffic information for this bridge repair project and for the entire Kansas City metro area can be viewed online at: www.ksdot.org/kcmetro/laneclose.asp.

The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and slow down when approaching and driving through the project work zone.

The scheduled completion date for the overall project is early December 2015, weather permitting.
