Flood advisory in effect

A flood advisory is in effect for Wyandotte County and surrounding counties until 4:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The urban and small stream flood advisory has been issued for Wyandotte County, Johnson County, Leavenworth County, Linn County and Miami County, the weather service said.

At 10:20 p.m., weather service radar indicated an area of heavy rainfall across the advisory area, according to the weather service. The radar and rain gauges measured one-half to one inch of rain has already fallen across the advisory area, and up to an additional one inch of rain is possible during the next few hours.

Runoff from this rainfall will cause minor flooding to occur, especially along small streams and near low water crossings, according to the weather service. Some locations that are expected to experience minor flooding include Basehor, Bonner Springs, Edwardsville, Kansas City, Kan., Lake Quivira, and some surrounding areas.

Residents are advised to be especially cautious at night. If flooding is observed act quickly, do not drive through areas where water covers the roadway, the weather service said.
