Benefit blues festival to be Sunday

The Amazing Grace Blues Festival will be held from 2 to 11 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at BB’s Lawnside BBQ, 1205 E. 85th St., in Kansas City, Mo.

A fundraiser for the KCK Public Schools Foundation for Excellence, the event’s admission will be $10. There will be other fundraisers at the benefit, including a silent auction.

The music benefit is named for Amazing Grace Harris, a Kansas City, Kan., resident who was the longtime cook at the Grand Emporium Saloon (1985-2004) in Kansas City, Mo., and former proprietor of H & M BBQ, which was located near 13th Street and Walker in Kansas City, Kan. H & M featured late night and after hours blues music performances and jams for several years in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

All bands are donating their performances to the event on May 17.The groups that will be performing include: Brody Buster Band, Millage Gilbert Band, Lonesome Hank and the Heartaches, John Paul’s Flying Circus, 51% Blues Band, The Waxed Tadpoles, and Rockn Rick Patterson.
