Topeka woman indicted in theft case from KCK postal distribution center

A Topeka woman was indicted Wednesday on federal charges of stealing five televisions owned by the U.S. Postal Service, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said.

Debra A. Samford, 35, Topeka, Kan., is charged with two counts of theft of Postal Service property, the U.S. attorney’s office stated.

The indictment alleges that from Jan. 15, 2015, to Jan. 26, 2015, Samford stole four 60-inch LED televisions belonging to the postal service, and on Jan. 27, 2015, she stole a 65-inch LED television belonging to the Postal Service. The televisions were stolen from the National Distribution Center in Kansas City, Kan., the U.S. attorney’s office stated.

If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of three years in federal prison on each count and a fine up to $250,000. The U.S. Postal Service – Office of Inspector General investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Kenney is prosecuting.
