A truck hauling miscellaneous metal pieces lost its load on I-70, resulting in flat tires for many drivers this morning, according to authorities.
The incident happened on I-70 in western Wyandotte County, in the 6 a.m. hour March 31, a Kansas Turnpike Authority spokesman stated.
KTA had reports that there were 30 to 40 tires changed on the scene, although that number is unconfirmed, according to the spokesman.
KTA maintenance crews, KTA’s State Farm Safety Assist and various law enforcement agencies, including Kansas Highway Patrol and local police departments, worked together to help the motorists change tires, the spokesman said.
As of 10:30 a.m., there were 17 official reports in the KTA dispatch center of damaged tires, and only one report of damage to the body of a vehicle, the spokesman said.
It is unknown at this time what caused the truck to lose the load, the spokesman added.
