Temperatures hit 80s today; red flag warning in effect in afternoon

Residents are warned of increased fire danger this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures in Wyandotte County may rise to 82 degrees and winds will be from 16 to 21 mph in the afternoon Monday, as a red flag warning will go into effect from noon through 8 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service said relative humidity is dropping into the 10 to 20 percent range across the region. That combined with winds, including gusts that may approach 30 mph, brings very high to extreme fire growth potential to the area, according to the weather service.

Any fires that ignite this afternoon will have the necessary ingredients, including dry fuels, to spread very quickly, the weather service said.

The weather service asked residents not to do any outdoor burning today because of these conditions.

The weather service added that cooler conditions should prevent any additional wildfire danger after today.

Tonight, the low will be around 45, while winds could gust as high as 24 mph, according to the weather service

Tuesday, there will be a noticeable drop in temperature, as the high will be near 56, the weather service said. A north northeast wind will be from 16 to 21 mph with gusts as high as 30 mph, according to the weather service. Tuesday night, the low will be 36.

Wednesday, there will be a 30 percent chance of rain after 8 a.m., the weather service said. It will be mostly cloudy with a high near 31. Less than a tenth of an inch of precipitation is in the forecast.

Wednesday night, there is a 30 percent chance of rain before 8 p.m., according to the weather service. The low will be 37.

Thursday’s high will be near 56, and Thursday night, the low will be around 40, the weather service said.

Friday’s high will be near 64 and Friday night’s low around 40, according to the weather service.

Saturday, the high will be near 64, and the low around 36, the weather service said. Sunday, expect a high near 56.
