Washington boys, Piper girls going to state basketball tournament

The Washington boys and the Piper girls basketball teams won their substate championships on Saturday and are going to the state tournament on Thursday.

Substate championship at Washington
Washington 64, Lansing 42

State competition: Washington, 18-4, will play Bishop Carroll of Wichita, 16-6, at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at the Topeka Expocentre. The winner of that game will play at 4:45 p.m. Friday, with the state championship game at 6:15 p.m. Saturday.

Girls substate championship at Piper
Piper 52, Tonganoxie 30

State competition: Piper, 17-5, will play Bishop Miege, 22-0, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at the Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kan. The winner of that game will play at 6:30 p.m. Friday, and the state championship game will be at 4 p.m. Saturday.
