More demolition work planned Friday on Fairfax bridge; highway closing scheduled

More demolition work is scheduled Friday, March 6, on the U.S. 69 bridge between Missouri and Kansas.

According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, crews plan to implode the remaining remnants of the Fairfax center bridge pier underwater on March 6.

Northbound and southbound U.S. 69 from I-635 in Missouri to Kindelberger Road in Kansas will be closed to all traffic from the bridge demolition work between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. March 6, according to KDOT. The project work is scheduled to be completed Friday.

The traffic from the Fairfax bridge is now using the Platte Purchase bridge. New bridge construction is scheduled to be completed Dec. 1, 2016.

The road closure Friday is subject to change because of the weather.
