UG considers charging fees for some parades, footraces

A Unified Government committee on Tuesday directed officials to come back with a plan that would charge a fee for some parades and footraces in Wyandotte County.

Gordon Criswell, deputy UG administrator, and Police Chief Terry Zeigler presented information to the committee about UG police and parks and recreation workers providing security and placing barricades for events.

There is no fee in place to reimburse the UG for the personnel costs, according to the officials.

Other municipalities charge a fee for parades, 5k races and marathon, according to the officials.

Commissioner Mike Kane suggested that they return with a proposal that would charge organizations from outside the city a fee for parades, footraces or bike races, while allowing local organizations to continue holding parades and events without a fee.
