Wyandotte County Museum features World War I exhibit
The Wyandotte County Historical Society and Museum, 635 N. 126th, Bonner Springs, Kan., will feature a historical exhibit about the local effect of World War I, “Local Poppies: Centennial of World War I.” The exhibit will include information Wyandotte County service members, war memorabilia, propaganda posters and local memorials from Wyandotte County. Project Feederwatch continues

Project Feederwatch continues at the Schlagle Environmental Library at Wyandotte County Lake Park, 91st and Leavenworth Road. The bird count is planned each Saturday when people sign up in advance. For more information, call 913-299-2384.

Support group for caregivers offered
A support group for caregivers is offered from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays at Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave. Kansas City, Kan. The facilitator is Jackie Tigges, MSW, LSCSW. Support group for those with addictions offered

Cabin Fever Festival planned Feb. 7
Kids need to blow off some steam? – Tired of the winter weather? Living Water United Methodist Church, 3001 N. 115th St., will hold its annual Cabin Fever Carnival. This free community event will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7. It is free and open to the community. Carnival games, food, inflatables, and prizes are planned. Artist reception planned Feb. 7
An artist reception for Berneice Williams, a local painter, will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 7 at the West Wyandotte Library, Fine Arts Gallery, 1737 N. 82nd, Kansas City, Kan.

Chocolate Festival planned at Main Library
A Chocolate Festival is planned for teens and tweens from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Main Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, 625 Minnesota, Kansas City, Kan. Those attending will learn about chocolate, its history, play chocolate trivia and sample various kinds of chocolate. The event is in the youth services storytime-craft room.

Sign up for health insurance
Staff from the Community Health Council of Wyandotte County will help with open enrollment for health insurance from 1 to 5 p.m. Feb. 7 at the South Branch Library, 3401 Strong Ave., Study Room 2. There will be assistance in Burmese early, and assistance in Spanish later.

Chili supper planned
A benefit Boy Scout Chili Supper is planned from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 2907 N. 81st. Proceeds benefit camp expenses.

Black History Banquet to be Feb. 7
The guest speaker at this year’s Black History Banquet will be Reginald Robinson, professor and director of the School of Public Affairs and Administration at the University of Kansas. The 23rd annual Black History and Scholarship Banquet will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Reardon Convention Center, 500 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The Unified Government Black history Committee is the host of the event. Tickets are $40 per person or $400 for a table of 10. KCK school board to meet Feb. 10

Leavenworth Road Association to meet Feb. 10, with mayor as guest speaker
Mayor Mark Holland will be the guest speaker at the Leavenworth Road Association meeting Feb. 10. The Leavenworth Road Association will meet for a pot luck dinner and social hour at 6 p.m. Feb. 10, followed by a program at 7 p.m., at the Eisenhower Recreation Center, 2901 N. 72nd. The LRA will provide baked spaghetti, while those attending will bring a side dish.

Women’s Chamber to meet Feb. 11
The Kansas City, Kan., Women’s Chamber of Commerce will meet at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Dave and Busters, Village West at The Legends Outlets, Kansas City, Kan. Networking will be from 11:30 a.m. to noon, and the lunch and program will be from noon to 1 p.m. The guest speaker is Amber Glasgow of the Girl Scouts. Kindle to speak at FIA meeting Feb. 12
The guest speaker for the Fairfax Industrial Association meeting Feb. 12 will be Greg Kindle, Kansas City, Kan., Area Chamber of Commerce president and Wyandotte Economic Development Council president. The Fairfax Industrial Association will meet for a luncheon at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Design Mechanical, 100 Greystone Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The Minnesota Avenue streetscape improvements project will hold an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the Kansas City, Kan., Area Chamber of Commerce office, 727 Minnesota Ave. The public may attend and ask questions.

State commissioner of education to attend listening tour here Feb. 18
The incoming state commissioner of education, Randy Watson, will hold a listening tour throughout Kansas, including one from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Feb. 18 at the Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools Central Office, Room 131-132, at 2010 N. 59th St., Kansas City, Kan. The community will have an opportunity to participate in an open conversation about the future of education in Kansas.

UG Commission to meet Feb. 19
The Unified Government Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 19 at City Hall 701 N. 7th St., lobby level, Kansas City, Kan. An agenda for the meeting may be posted a few days in advance of the meeting at www.wycokck.org. A public hearing on the UG budget is expected to be held at this meeting.

School plans chili supper, silent auction Feb. 20
Open Door Christian School, 3033 N. 103rd Terrace, plans a chili supper and silent auction on Feb. 20. The event will raise funds that will be used for the computer technology and training program, and for a shade structure for the playground.

Community meeting planned with police chief, sheriff
A community forum is planned Feb. 21 for the community to meet local law enforcement officers. The coffee and doughnuts hour is planned at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the East Fellowship Hall, Mount Zion Baptist Church, 417 Richmond Ave., Kansas City, Kan. It is a joint effort of the Kansas City, Kan., Baptist Ministers Union and participating churches, with local law enforcement officers. Police Chief Terry R. Zeigler and Wyandotte County Sheriff Don Ash, with some of their officers, will be the guests at the meeting. The meeting will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. According to an announcement, the purpose of the coffee hour is to acquaint the public with the police and sheriff departments, in the hope of building the best possible relationship between the community and local law enforcement agencies. The Baptist Ministers Union Civic Committee includes the Rev. C.L. Bachus, the Rev. Jimmie L. Banks, the Rev. Rickey D. Turner and the Rev. Bobby Young, president.

Dinner, auction planned Feb. 27 to raise funds for school
Christ the King Catholic School, Kansas City, Kan., is planning its 12th annual auction and dinner at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at the George Meyn Community Center, Wyandotte County Park, 126th and State Avenue.
